Choosing the Right Hosting Plan

For a new blog, shared hosting is perfectly adequate and the most cost-effective option. You don't need VPS, dedicated, or cloud hosting until you're getting tens of thousands of monthly visitors. Look for a plan that includes: free SSL certificate, at least 10GB storage, unmetered bandwidth, daily backups, and one-click WordPress installation.

Signing Up and Initial Setup

Visit your chosen host's website, select the starter/basic plan, and complete signup. If you've already registered your domain elsewhere, skip the domain registration option during checkout. After payment, you'll receive a welcome email with your hosting control panel login details, nameserver addresses, and basic getting-started instructions.

Connecting Your Domain

Log into your domain registrar and navigate to your domain's DNS or nameserver settings. Replace the default nameservers with the ones provided by your hosting company. Save the changes — DNS propagation typically takes 2–24 hours. You can check propagation status at whatsmydns.net. Once propagated, visiting your domain will show your hosting provider's default page, confirming the connection is working.
