Creating Your Main Navigation Menu
Go to Appearance → Menus, create a new menu called 'Main Navigation', and add your key pages: Home, About, Blog, Contact. Drag items to reorder them. Create dropdown menus by dragging items slightly to the right under their parent. Assign the menu to the 'Primary Menu' location. Keep your main nav simple — 5–7 items maximum. Visitors should be able to find any page within 2 clicks.
Setting Up Your Sidebar
Go to Appearance → Widgets (or use the Customizer). Your sidebar typically appears next to your blog posts. Add useful widgets like a Search box, Recent Posts, Categories list, and an email signup form. Avoid cluttering your sidebar with too many widgets — each one competes for attention. Your sidebar should complement your content, not distract from it.
Footer Widget Areas
Most themes offer 3–4 footer widget columns. Use these for an About blurb, Quick Links, Contact Information, and Social Media links. Keep footer content minimal and functional. Your footer is also a good place for legal links (Privacy Policy, Terms, Disclaimer) that are required but don't need prominent placement.
